Nominating Committee Appointed for Bishop Search

Dear Friends in Christ,

As we continue the search and transition process begun earlier this summer, with Bishop Waldo’s announcement of his plans to retire at the end of 2021, the Standing Committee has appointed the Nominating Committee in the search for the IX Bishop of Upper South Carolina.

The nominating committee, listed below, began its work with an orientation session with Standing Committee on September 26, 2020. They worked to draft a search profile and identify candidates for our next bishop from around the country. The nominating committee narrowed the candidates to a group of finalists, which the Standing Committee approved and announced on August 14, 2021.

The new bishop will be elected by clergy and lay delegates from across the diocese at a special diocesan electing convention, scheduled for September 25, 2021. The consecration of the new bishop is scheduled for February 26, 2022.

We urge you to continue to pray for everyone involved in the search and nomination process, and to look for ways you can involve yourself as well.

Faithfully,

The Rev. Stephen J. Rhoades
President of the Standing Committee
