St. Peter’s, Greenville calls new Rector

The Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina is pleased to announce the calling of The Rev. Chuck Messer as the new Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Greenville.

Father Chuck earned his Master of Divinity at the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, followed by a certificate in Anglican Studies at the School of Theology at The University of the South (Sewanee). Ordained in 2003, he began his career as a church planter in Kansas City and later served parishes in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and southern New Jersey. He comes to the Diocese after most recently serving St John’s Episcopal Church in Salem, New Jersey, since 2018.

Father Chuck is married to Diane, and they have three children. Their daughter Aidana is a 2023 graduate of Rowan University with a degree in art. Their son Arman will remain in the Philadelphia area to complete a certificate in machining. Their daughter Emma is currently pursuing a career in music production in Nashville, TN.

Diane will be joining the staff of Taylors Elementary School, teaching 3rd grade. She is a lifelong educator who has recently completed nine years in the Philadelphia School District, providing professional development for teachers.

Father Chuck enjoys fishing, mowing grass, and the never-ending quest to discover bootleg recordings of Bruce Springsteen concerts. Father Chuck will begin his work at St. Peter’s on August 1, 2023, and will preach and preside for the first time on August 6th.
