EDUSC deputation gathers in preparation for General Convention
Each spring before General Convention, the deputations from each Province IV diocese come together for Synod, intending to ready ourselves for the triennial gathering. This year, we met at Camp McDowell in Alabama in late April. (You may know that General Convention was originally scheduled for summer 2021 but was postponed due to COVID.)
Our time together was punctuated by joyful worship, several opportunities for fellowship and relationship-building, an afternoon of ministry-related workshops, and a powerful keynote address by the Rev. Stephanie Spellers, who serves as Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s Canon for Evangelism and Reconciliation.
Particularly noteworthy is that Angela Daniel, a member of St. John’s, Columbia, was elected to serve as President of Province IV. Having already served in this capacity from 2012 to 2018, she is excited to serve alongside “a seriously committed Executive Committee and an enthusiastic group of committee chairs.”
General Convention will take place this summer in Baltimore on a condensed schedule. Due to ongoing COVID precautions, only deputations, active bishops, some alternate deputies, and essential staff and volunteers will be in attendance, and the convention schedule has been shortened to July 8 - July 11.
Please pray for Bishop Daniel and your deputation as we travel, pray, prepare and work together with the larger Church.
