High School Converge

Our diocesan youth ministry mission statement begins with "[knowing] the love of Christ," and Converge is the place for youth exploring the idea of following Jesus to do just that. Converge is an overnight retreat experience that combines the fun of a lock-in with the formation of a scripturally-rooted program, ending with Sunday Eucharist at the host parish. The name "Converge" comes from the idea of many people converging at one place in time for a shared experience that unites us as an ever-growing community and the Body of Christ. Converge is well-suited for newcomers and returning youth community members alike, as the shorter timeframe allows students to get familiar with the diocesan youth community without committing to an entire weekend.
Because Converge is so brief, the program focuses on getting to know a little about who Jesus is and calls us to be by honing in on an idea from the epistle being read in the lectionary at the time of the retreat. This year, our guiding passage comes from Paul's second letter to Timothy:
For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline. Do not be ashamed, then, of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God, who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. (2 Timothy 1:7-10)
High School Converge is for students in grades 9-12.
