Province IV HIV/AIDS retreat celebrates final year

The Rev. Deacon Dianna Deaderick of St. Luke’s, Columbia sits on a newly blessed bench in the Serenity Garden at Kanuga Camp and Conference Center. The beautiful bench shaped like a cathedral window featuring a cross faces the white cross on the other side of the Kanuga lake. The setting is beautiful, peaceful and filled with God’s love expressed through nature.

For 25 years, Province IV has sponsored a retreat for HIV positive persons at Kanuga. It is a time of retreat, reflection, and deep community where those who are so often marginalized have the opportunity to feel the unconditional love of God in community.

Creatively Mobilizing for HIV/AIDS - Look what one small church in South Carolina has achieved by showing SCETV’s new and powerful, 24-minute show, “HIV/AIDS and Faith.”

On January 18, 2012, the active HIV/AIDS ministry at St. Luke’s hosted a dinner and the viewing, followed by a discussion.  The members were so motivated to help raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in our state that they took two buses to the Keep the Promise 2012 March on Washington on Sunday, July 22, 2012. St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields Church, also in Columbia, sponsored two youths for this trip – one from St. Martin’s and one from St. Luke’s.
