Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
—Ephesians 2:19-22

Can Christianity penetrate the many areas of secular life in today's world? Can it live there? Can it grow there? Can it transform the world in a way that is more fruitful than the past and in keeping with the times? The Cursillo movement thinks so! It proposes no new type of spirituality, but simply a method through which one's spirituality may be developed, lived and shared in any area of human life where there are Christians willing to dedicate their lives to God.

Cursillo is patterned on Jesus' own example. He searched out and called a small group of potential leaders (pre-Cursillo); He trained them by word and example and inspired them with a vision (Cursillo Weekend); He linked them together and sent them out into the world to bring the world to Him (post-Cursillo or the Fourth Day).

Explaining Cursillo to someone who has never experienced it can be difficult. For those who have experienced Cursillo, it is still somewhat mystifying. This is not because the Cursillo movement is a "secret" organization. The reason behind the mystery is God. No one can fully explain how God touches each person in His unique way throughout the various elements of the Cursillo movement and method.

People who are part of Cursillo start by attending a three-day weekend. It is a 'retreat' only in the sense that the group attempts to limit the influence of the outside world. The word 'advance' would probably be more descriptive. The Cursillo weekend is a deeply moving time in which we ask ourselves: What am I doing here? What does God want of me? What does Christ see in me? What do I see in Christ? What is Christ saying to me?

The purpose of Cursillo is to help those in the Church understand their individual callings to be Christian leaders.
