Preparing for the Unthinkable - June 28, 2017

Media Relations for Good and Bad Times

Crises happen. Local, regional, even national media outlets want to report on them – AND to get information fast, dig deep and pursue an angle that no one else is covering. Their goals may conflict with your commitment to providing a safe, confidential space. How do you respect the public’s right to know while serving the spiritual and emotional needs of your community? Advanced planning will equip you with tools to better navigate this situation. During this workshop, you will acquire resources to:

* Develop relationships with local media outlets before a crisis occurs

* Explore opportunities to tell your church’s stories using a variety of communication tools

* Build a resource file that will make it easier to respond to requests

* Identify and train individuals who can assist in times of crisis and assign the roles that they will fill

* Incorporate media relations plans into your overall communication plan and your emergency preparedness plan We will have plenty of time for simulated interviews and for your questions. We will also share best practices so we can learn from one another. Bring your concerns, past experiences and successes to share.
