Diocesan communicators

honored at 84th Convention

The 2006 Awards Ceremony

For the third consecutive year the Diocese of Upper South Carolina has presented the diocesan Awards for Excellence in Communication to those hard-working, behind-the-scenes individuals who devote themselves to getting the word / Word out. The Communications Awards are structured so that churches, institutions, and organizations compete against their peers—those who are similar in terms of membership and resources available.

This year's awards were presented by Peggy Hill, diocesan Canon for Communications, at the October 20 barbeque bash. Melanie Owen, director of communications for Shandon United Methodist Church in Columbia, headed a panel of communications professionals who judged the entries. First-place winners received a $50 gift certificate to Staples to support their ministry.

First-place honors went to All Saints', Cayce; Grace Church, Camden.; St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, Columbia; Trinity Cathedral, Columbia; Christ Church, Greenville; The Episcopal Church Women; and Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community. For a complete listing of award winners click here.
