Upper South Carolinians appointed to national Episcopal Church positions

Art Bjontegard

Bonnie Anderson, president of the Episcopal Church's House of Deputies, has announced the appointment of members to serve on the Standing Commissions and Committees of the Episcopal Church. In the Two Upper South Carolinians will serve during this triennium: Mr. Arthur Bjontegard (St. Michael & All Angels, Columbia), as special representative to the House of Deputies Committee on the State of the Church, and Ms. Angela M. Daniel (St. John's, Columbia), on the Standing Commission on Stewardship and Development.

Appointees serve on a voluntary basis. “More than 500 names of Episcopalians wishing to serve on these committees and commissions were recommended for less than 135 positions to be filled,” Anderson said. The committees, commissions, agencies and boards (CCABs) of the Episcopal Church's General Convention receive resolutions from General Convention and determine methods for their implementation during the following three years until the next convention. The Presiding Bishop appoints the bishop members of the CCABs and the president of the House of Deputies appoints clergy and lay members. The presiding officers jointly appoint some of the committees.
