Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina

Youth Formation and Mission

Youth Ministry 2014 COLOR smallerThe Diocese of Upper South Carolina seeks "To Know, Grow, and Sow the Love of Christ" among youth through events offered for young people in grades 5-12. Diocesan events are held in various locations and are open to all youth and their friends. Each of these events, while focused on a specific age group and theme or program, is designed to deepen the spiritual development and the leadership skills of the participants. All youth events are designed and led by youth with adult supervision and clergy input. Our policies and procedures for our youth events may be found in our FAQS document. Churches are required to provide Safe Church trained, background checked chaperones for all retreats, except Happening. Click the button below to find out more about these formative events. Please note that fees for youth retreats and events are non-refundable after the event's registration deadline. A Service Learning Opportunity for Province IV Middle and High School Students

Humble yourself under God's mighty hand, that God may lift you up in due time.
1 Peter 5:6

Province IV has a great history and tradition of assisting its own when disaster strikes. This year we will assist with the continued clean up and aftermath from Hurricane Matthew in Lumberton, NC. During the three days together the group will immerse themselves in the rich culture of the Lumbee Indians who call this area in NC Robeson, Hoke, Cumberland and Scotland Counties in NC their home. The work will consist of repair to homes and communities that were flooded during and following Hurricane Matthew as well as nurturing relationships we make along the way.
Middle school and high school (those who will complete 6 through 12 grades at the end of the 2017 school year) students are welcome. Churches do need to provide adult chaperones at a 1:5 ratio per EDUSC Safe Church Policies.

Youth and Adults Invited to Apply for DYLC

Youth retreats in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina are planned by the Diocesan Youth Leadership Committee (DYLC). This group of high school youth and adults from throughout the Diocese assist in the creation and implementation of youth events and help in setting the policies and procedures for governing them. Applications for DYLC are accepted during the Spring semester of each school year. We are particularly seeking representation from congregations not currently represented on DYLC. The application is available here: icon DYLC Application 2017-18.  Application and reference deadline for the 2017-18 school year is March 27th, 2016.
